CHIEF GALLERY: MARIA SMIDOVA FROM SLOVAKIA

"My name is Maria Smidova and I am FSE Slovak General Guides Commissioner. I was born in Slovakia in 1987, but I spent my teenage years with my family in Rome, Italy, where I joined FSE. In 2003, I participated in the Eurojam in Zelazko. Looking at all the flags, rising up at the opening ceremony, I wished, that my Slovak peers would have the same possibility as I had becoming a part of FSE family. For my big joy, there were also other people with same idea. Returning to Slovakia from Italy in 2004, my brother and myself participated in and organised first camps and activities of the first FSE group in Slovakia. Meanwhile, I finished high school in Slovakia and completed Italian scout leader preparation. After graduation in 2006, I applied for Psychology course in London, that I am going to finish in few months and come back home Bratislava, Slovakia. Although it was not easy to coordinate the activities in Slovakia being in London, however it was not impossible thanks to Skype, e-mail and other modern means of communication. Also low cost fligths helped a lot to be several times in Slovakia for the different meetings. Scouting means a lot to me. The words of promise are crucial in my decision-making, as they serve me as the simplest explanation of my Lords` s commandments. I can say, that, my whole scout family (beginning with my first patrol leader Alessia and with my spiritual father o. Cyril Vasil, up to all FSE) helps me to open my mind, my spirit and my force to go on in life, looking for right direction.
